Slate Chippings
There are 2 types of slate chippings, mined in different areas of the UK. The most popular range are the Welsh slate chippings from the slate mines of Wales. It is an environmentally friendly product because it’s a by-product from roof slate production. It’s graded into 2 sizes, 20mm and 40mm, and comes in 3 colours, plum, blue and graphite. It’s a flat type of aggregate so is ideal for paths and driveways, but is also used as a mulch to suppress weeds and hold moisture in the soil in planted areas and borders. When used in water features the colours are much more vivid and pleasing to the eye. The other type of slate chippings are from Cumbria and also come in 20mm and 40mm sizes, but this type is green and slightly more chunky in appearance. Both types of slate chippings are fish friendly and safe to use in fish ponds.
