How to use gravel grid to stop gravel migration

Prepare the Ground

Mark the area, excavate to required depth, then install and compact a solid sub-base (MOT Type 1 or similar).

Level & protect

Apply a thin leveling layer of sharp sand and lay weed membrane.

Install grids

Place and connect the grid panels evenly across the prepared surface.

Fill with gravel

Fill cells with angular gravel and level slightly above the grid.

The smallest size of graphite grey slate chippings. This slate is an environmentally friendly by-product from the Welsh roofing slate industry. Alternative names for this slate are sometimes used like Grey Slate or Charcoal Grey Slate. It's a neutral dark grey colour so won't distract from its surroundings when laid. There is a possibility that mixed in with the grey slate there might be the odd piece that is a different colour. Sometimes this may even be in the same piece of slate. The 20mm grade is the more popular of the two sizes for use on driveways and paths as it tends to bed down and knit together making it an ideal surface for walking on. It's also often used for water features, ponds, screescapes, borders, mulching and general decorative landscaping. The approximate length of the chippings ranges between 10-30mm.
