Mark the area, excavate to required depth, then install and compact a solid sub-base (MOT Type 1 or similar).

Fill cells with angular gravel and level slightly above the grid.

The smaller size of Green Slate Chippings. It contains a much wider variance in colour compared to blue and plum slate. There are very nice shades of natural looking greens from light to dark that are really emphasised when it's wet. It's also possible there may be the odd plum or blue coloured chippings in with the green. Although most of the slate pieces are flat, there are some pieces that are more chunky than the other two colours. As the pieces in the 20mm variety are smaller they tend to bed together better than the larger grade slate chippings. This makes it a better choice for footpaths and driveways. It's also suitable for screescapes, rockeries, general landscaping, borders, mulches, water features and ponds. All slate aggregates come from the Welsh quarries that supply roofing tiles. They are the material left over from this production, and crushed to make decorative chippings. This makes slate a very environmentally friendly product.
